Weekly Recap | February 17th

Updated: Feb 24

Honestly, I started this meal delivery business on a total lark. I was fully employed until a little over two months ago. The first month of unemployment was great - I went to the gym, relaxed, and hung out with friends.

After a few weeks, however, I found myself getting a bit bored - and then EXTREMELY bored. I’ve never been able to thrive without structure and always find ways to make myself a little bit too busy - so when someone asked me if I do meal deliveries, I thought about it for about 1.3 seconds before responding with an emphatic “Yes.”

That was four weeks ago - and while this little service of mine is still finding its bearings, I’m enjoying the challenge. There’s so much more that goes into this service than meets the eye - cooking and shopping, obviously, but also organizing my kitchen for the most efficient flow, building menus, websites, and working on reaching new clients and retaining old ones, learning how to film and edit videos for social media (good lord someone help me with that), and keeping on track of costs and earnings. And all this on top of having other private chef clients, too.

Honestly though, I wouldn’t want it any other way. Having this service - however small it might be - helps me tap into my creative energy while keeping me mentally engaged in the world around me. So for now, we’re sticking with it. Let’s see where this can go! Anyway! On to this week’s menu. If last week was all about Tex-Mex and southeast Asian flavors, this week is all about Italy, France, and America: roast chicken with shmaltzy cabbage and crispy potatoes; meatballs and spaghetti; mac ‘n cheese; and French onion soup. Breakfast burritos are staying on the menu, and I’m bringing back chia puddings with homemade granola. For add-ons, I’m sticking to the classics: chile crisp, chocolate chip cookies, and salsa macha, and adding apple hand pies because I will take any opportunity to throw a pie dough on my menu. There’s also cheesy focaccia on offer.

And a few housekeeping items:

  • Two weeks from now is Purim and there will NOT be deliveries. However, I am thinking of opening up extra deliveries for the Friday before Purim (February 27th) to get you through the week ahead. Please let me know if that is something that interests you – it would be a more elevated menu + some freezer-friendly items (soups, lasagna, things like that).

  • I am looking for brand ambassadors! I would love to grow my reach and know that word-of-mouth is the best way to go. If you’re interested, please reach out.

  • Did you know that if you refer a friend you can get 10% off your next order? Now you know!
